Many thanks to all the old friends and new clients who dropped by the Maritron Booth during the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. The Maritron Staff also were on the docks meeting clients on their boats.

Maritron Alarm, Security and Monitoring Systems- Recent Projects and Installations

September 2007

The Maritron booth at the Triton's Poker Run and Party on September 5 was a great success. Many thanks to Jay Keenan (pictured right) and Marc Curreri from Paradox Marine for demonstrating the Magellan Security System, and the Maritron Staff for generously pouring the rum and cokes. See additional pictures from the event at www.the-triton.com.

August 2007 Projects

August has unfortunately seen a spike in theft of electronics equipment (pictured right) from boats docked in local marinas. Often the criminals are arriving by boat, making the security provided by these marinas less effective. Fortunately, in two instances, the thieves were apprehended by police. Our technicians have been busy designing security systems that include cellular dialers and central station monitoring to immediately alert owners and marina security if an alarm is triggered.

July 2007 Projects

Maritron technicians Robert Astin and James Galinaitis traveled to the Inace Shipyard in Forteleza, Brazil, to complete installation and calibration of the Maritron Monitoring System on the 111' new build M/Y Sudami. All went smoothly with the ship. However, when the technicians were ready to return home an airport strike ensued stranding them. A midair collision blamed on understaffed air traffic controllers resulted in a general walkout that lasted several days. Our poor technicians, were stuck in an oceanside resort under an azure sky with little umbrellas in their cocktails.

Mike Mayers of Ft. Meyers, Florida, contacted Maritron regarding the installation of a Coast Guard certified panel on his tugboat Jahmon. The tug, a vessel under 65', cannot pass Coast Guard inspection without such a fire panel. As no such panel exists at this time, we installed a marine panel certified by the DNV, LRS and ABS, with additional equipment (detectors, strobes, general alarm) that meet Coast Guard inspection requirements. We hope for reasonable inspectors and swift approval from the Coast Guard.

June 2007 Projects

Following numerous requests for an affordable alarm system for smaller vessels we have designed a security defense system. The system consists of two door/hatch alarms, a motion detector in the salon, and a 15-watt speaker that should dismay a would-be intruder. The system is expandable to incorporate other equipment as needed. The installation is soon to be featured in a one page story with photos in Yacht Vacations & Charters Magazine.

May 2007 Projects

M/Y Golden Rule enhanced their original Feadship ship alarms with state-of-the-art equipment. A 15” flatscreen translucent computer replaced the original Feadship modular components in the engine room. A new 5.7” readout display was installed in the cruise lounge for rapid response. All new senders, oil pressure, temperature and RPM, integrated the ship alarms with the Maritron monitoring system.

Captain W.C. “Chappy” Coldwell is having our newest Elk panel installed on M/Y William First to completely upgrade the system. This new highly versatile security and automation control panel offers virtually unlimited expansion on input and output capabilities. The open architectural design accommodates any application regardless of complexity.

M/Y Veronica, just out of the INACE Shipyard, Forteleza Brazil, now has the Maritron monitoring system up and running. Captain Darren Nightingale is delighted with the simplicity and user friendly system and intends to install the system on his next INACE project presently being undertaken. Bob Astin, our senior technician, will supervise installation of the Maritron monitoring system for Oceantech Enterprises, Inc. on INACE's latest build, a 111' motor yacht.

Captain Mark Diekmann needed to replace original Italian fire detectors that were painted to exactly match the color of the ceiling panels on M/Y Azure Leisure. This presented quite a challenge and our team went through a bit of spray paint inhalation before finding an appropriate shade of bone.

Captain Leon of M/Y Mitseaah is preparing to spend the summer chartering to passengers in beautiful northern waters and needed an updated fire system to pass inspections. James Myhre, our fire systems specialist, was able to provide a code compliant system in record time that meets all requirements and is aesthetically unobtrusive to guests onboard.

Maritron Project in Progress

Blueprints are being finalized for an extensive security system on a new build at Lurssen. The system features an innovative web based access control system. The system uses a standard Web browser from any computer to access, monitor, manage and control the doors, access readers, alarms and other connected devices.

True North, a magnificent Newcastle 137' captained by Durk Offringa, occupied our technicians for several weeks in the installation of an integrated monitoring system. Needless to say the owner was thrilled when the job was complete and his cruise got under way.

February 2007

After some disconcerting reports of illegal boarding, M/Y Savannah Ann decided security was an issue that should not be ignored. Captain Roy Conklin had us design a system using multiple types of sensors and detectors and a voice annunciation alarm to insure the safety of the vessel and passengers.

M/Y Canim, the elegantly restored 1930s fantail yacht captained by Luther Hall needed a reliable monitoring system. Our technicians met the yacht in Tortola to design and install a user-friendly system that could be depended on for extended voyages. The crew was trained to operate and maintain the system and are now cruising with no worries.

December 2006

M/Y Valkyrie underwent a major security upgrade including new CCTVs and an underwater camera that captures their greatest moments in sportfishing to the delight of owner and guests.

S/Y Patient Falcon's Captain Steve Brownsea ordered a plug and play fire detection system to be programmed and shipped to the vessel in St. Maarten. Captain Brownsea installed the system without a hitch. Bravo!!

M/Y Inner Wisdom needed a plug and play security system to insure safety for her voyage to the Caribbean. Accidentally the supplier provided ultra sensitive deck sensors made for steel hulls that on fiberglass seemed to alarm in a stiff wind. Once we discovered the error the installation was completed and the yacht headed out securely to Caribbean adventures.
